Travel exemption granted on 10/30/2020

Given that the extended family travel exemption that I was granted in October 2020 is for 6 months, and is therefore expiring soon (the end of March), I’m wondering when’s a good time to re-apply for the exemption?
Do I need to wait until my current exemption expires? Should I re-apply ASAP?
Can we use the same notarized document as before, or do we need a new one?
What happens if my travel exemption expires while I’m in Canada? I’ve booked a trip to Canada from mid-March to mid-April and it will expire while I’m in the country.
Has the application process gotten any smoother since I applied in October? There were email issues that caused my approval to take over a month to get to me – has that been fixed?
